Last week was a little crazy for me! Cheerleading has hit its peak and I've been coaching almost daily. Last Thursday I was so excited to meet up with Sara B and Sara P and our husbands to watch the State vs. Carolina game at Taco Mac. I had a great time and enjoyed scarfing down all of the chips and queso and catching up with dear friends. Unfortunately our team lost but we had fun none the less!
On Friday we held our annual cheerleading lock-in at the school. Sometime during the lock-in, I left to meet Jay at the facility to get our gender ultrasound done. Let me start by saying that it was not the best experience. The place reminded me of a nail salon mixed with buying purses of the streets of New York. In short, it gave me the creeps. We waited around 10 minutes for couple in front of us to be finished and all we could hear was Disney music being played loudly down the hall. Jay kept bursting out laughing. The place smelled of too much floral. The ultrasound tech barely spoke English. The place was called My Sunshine Baby and I would not recommend!
We were able to find out the gender of one of our babies, the other was very camera shy and we could not get a look at the goods! The ultrasound place's policy is to recheck you if the baby hides. At the last minute the tech gave us her guess. I'm assuming she didn't want to check me again for free. I left there pretty unsure of what either child was!
I've called another place and scheduled an appointment for later this week. The lady I spoke to today at the Prenatal Picture seemed great and actually set me up two appointments in case we had a hidden baby again!
Having ordered the cakes on Saturday, I called the bakery back today to put them on hold until I know more. Luckily they were awesome and so understanding. Huge shout out to the Blushing Bakeshop in Ballantyne! I love their cupcakes and hope their cakes are just as fabulous! They've had the best customer service so far and are even designing the cakes around the invitations. They won't bake the cake until Friday afternoon so I've got some time to figure everything out! Please say a prayer that the babies put on a show for us this week (this is probably the only time in my life I will want my children to display their goods!)!
Moving On...
On Saturday I finished up getting decorations for the gender reveal party and spent way to much time in hobby lobby :) Good thing that place is all the way in Matthews!
Sunday brought out my (and Jay's) inner Martha. We teamed up to make the fluffiest tissue paper pom poms to adorn our ceiling, ironed several baby blankets and table clothes, moved furniture, cleaned and cleaned, and pretty much turn the upstairs of our house pink and blue. I'm so excited to reveal these genders (if only we knew!)
Over the course of the weekend I started having pains in my lower right side. I attributed them to round ligament pain but called the doctor on Saturday just to be sure. They agreed but wanted to see me today (Monday) just to be sure. The doctor pressed around on my belly and it hurt so bad. He checked the babies heart beats and my cervix and everything was fine. He sent me for an ultrasound (which both babies were not showing any goods) and they babes looked great as well as my ovaries. He has narrowed the pain down to two things, round ligament pain, or something is wrong with my appendix. Let's pray for the former. He told me several warning signs for appendicitis and sent me home with instructions to head to the hospital if I felt any other the things he mentioned. I've got a gut feeling that it is RLP and not appendicitis.
Anyway, thanks for listening to the catch up! Off to coach a game and then a practice! I promise more thought-filled blog posting to come. Thanks for hanging in there!

Week 14
This has been one of my roughest pregnancy weeks so far. Morning (all day) sickness is definitely back with a vengeance, my husband wasn't here to help out, I've had some anxiety issues regarding these babies. I want to touch for just a minute on the anxiety part. The other night when Jay came home from being out of town for what seemed like a month, we just cuddled on the couch with the pups and I got sad for a minute thinking that our days as a family of "4" are numbered. Admittedly, I am super emotional right now with all of my crazy hormones but I don't want to feel sad about having a baby. I want to be excited! Hopefully mourning the loss of our family as a couple will be something I only think about now and will be replaced by the happiness my two bundles of joy will bring into our lives :)
Pregnancy Highlights:
Today's Date: Wednesday, January 18th, 2012
How Far Along: 14 weeks
Size of babies: Babies are the size of lemons.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Down 4 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight. I'm trying not to stress out about this but holy cow, I try all my life to lose weight and now when I'm trying to gain it is not happening!
Maternity Clothes: Definitely the pants. I got a few new tops and they're working pretty well. I swear my bump is shrinking though! One of the sweaters I got fit great the first time I wore it and looks like a big baggy mess now!
Gender: My guess is boy/girl this week.
Movement: Still can't feel the babies move. Hopefully in the next month or so!
Sleep: I can fall asleep easily in the beginning but staying/falling back asleep is hard! I can't tell you the amount of solitaire I've played on my phone trying to go back to sleep.
What I miss: My appetite.
Cravings: Pasta!
Symptoms: Morning sickness is back along with major headaches, some lower back pain, and lovely round ligament pain.
Best Moment this week: Jay coming back in town!

Your Baby: Week 14
Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth

Week 13
First trimester is officially over! This week has been slower and I like it! We had a great appointment with one of the OBs in our practice on Monday and are so glad/thankful/blessed that our twins are doing wonderfully! I have been amazed this week at the outpouring of love Jay and I and the babies have received from friends and family. The other day a really nice giant stuffed teddy bear arrived in my classroom from one of my cheer parents. Another sent me a picture of her glider and offered to give it to us. A teacher at school gave us a brand new pack and play and a friend of my mom's (much younger than my mom) gave me a huge bin of maternity clothes! I am so thankful to have all of these giving people in my life! With two babies on the way we certainly appreciate all the help!
I printed our gender reveal invitations today and am so excited to get them in the mail tomorrow. Here's a peak at what they look like! (I blacked out all of our personal information) I love the classic/vintage look and can't wait to print out the rest of the party items!
We also made a decision about our cribs today! A 15% off coupon floating across the pottery barn kids website was the little push we needed to pull the trigger! We're heading over to the store this evening to purchase our cribs. I'm so excited to buy something for the babies besides white onesies! Here's another picture of the crib we decided on.
I also desperately need to start taking bump pictures (fully clothed!). Hopefully Jay will take one or two tonight and I'll be able to post them later.
Pregnancy Highlights:
Today's Date: Wednesday, January 11th, 2012
How Far Along: 13 weeks
Size of babies: Babies are the size of peaches.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Down 3 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight (same as ast week but down a pound from the last time I was at the doctor)
Maternity Clothes: Yes! I told my kids (specifically the girls) not to make fun of me if I wear the same thing over and over again!
Gender: After Monday's heartbeat slow downs I'm convinced they are both boys.
Movement: Still can't feel the babies move. Hopefully in the next month or so!
Sleep: I'm having CRAZY dreams that are waking me up! Last night I dreamt my parents got divorced because my Dad was joining the army, yet they were still living together and acting like no big deal?! Crazy! I woke up crying and went back to sleep and the dream continued!
What I miss: Cooking and energy. I'd love to be able to start working out but this rain has put a damper on my plans.
Cravings: Nothing really this week. I actually got a coke icee and didn't finish it.
Symptoms: The morning sickness is starting to go away! I didn't have to take medicine two days this week. The dreams and hard tummy are becoming my new symptoms.
Best Moment this week: All of them! Learning the babies are healthy, planning this party, ordering cribs :)

Mommy Post
Jay and I had our first trimester screening (a little late) yesterday. We learned that our chances for having a baby with downs syndrome are greater than 1 in 10,000, good news but it wouldn't have mattered to us either way. We are just so excited to be having babies!
Both babies looked great on the ultrasound. I was sort of disappointed that our ultrasounds were so close together (just a week and a half) that the babies didn't really look that much different. The did put on a major show for us and were wiggling all over the place. Their heartbeats have slowed down, 152 for baby A and 158 for baby B. The ultrasound tech said this was perfectly normal for this age and that the range we want to see is between 150-160. I'm starting to have a feeling that they are both boys. God help me. Seriously. :)
I also learned that stabbing pains I'm having all towards the sides of my lower stomach is round ligament pain. This pain normally doesn't happen until 16-18 weeks but after feeling my uterus, the doctor explained that my uterus was measuring 17-18 weeks (resulting in a plump baby bump) and that's why I was feeling it. Lovely.
Jay and I have also decided to host a gender reveal party for our family and close friends. We cannot WAIT to find out what we're having and I love throwing a party so it made sense. I've had fun purchasing little baby items to decorate and just finalized the printable items today from Allison Kizer Designs on Etsy. I found a cute invitation on her site that I liked and requested some custom items. She has been GREAT to work with and I'm looking forward to printing them out!
Since our next ultrasound/NT scan is not until 20 weeks (February 29th), we've decided to schedule one with a private facility at 16 weeks to determine the gender. We simply cannot wait. On a side note, we also want to find out what we're having before the huge Mothers of Multiples sale so that we can stock up on some great consignment pieces. Our gender ultrasound will be on January 31st and our reveal on February 4th. We have to allow the bakery some time to get our cakes together. Since our pregnancy was not a big surprise to our friends or family, I am so excited to host this gender party and let everyone know our big secret at once! I've been perusing pinterest for twin gender reveal party ideas and I've been a little let down. I may do a little blog series to publish so that other twin moms can get some ideas. We'll see!

Week 12
Happy New Year!
I'm excited to begin week 12, the last of my first trimester. We had a great time traveling and visiting family over the holidays. My morning sickness felt like it was subsiding, only to come back again. I was able to go one day without taking my Zofran.
I announced my pregnancy to my students yesterday and they were all so excited! They wanted to know what I was having (boys/girls) and what the names were going to be. I had a lot of requests to name the babies after my kids! Haha! I also got comments like, "that's why you've been so lazy!", "is that why you drink ginger-ale all the time?", and "you lied to us when you told us you had food poisoning!". They asked a lot of questions about morning sickness, and watched me like a hawk when I ate my bagel this morning. One girl even commented that she was so afraid for me to eat, she didn't want me to throw up in class! Some of my cheerleaders also admitted that they had a little bit of a clue when they ran an errand to my car and saw a box of pregnancy tests! Those little buggers!
I went in to the doctor yesterday to have my finger pricked for my first trimester screening. This is were they screen for genetic abnormalities. We weren't sure if we would do this testing at first because we new that even if our baby had special needs it wouldn't change our minds about this pregnancy; however, in the end our doctor advised us that knowing ahead of time will help us prepare if need be and also learn about the services and therapies our children might need. On Monday we will go in for the ultrasound that measures the babies neck and that number combined with the blood test results will give us our odds of having a child with special needs. I am just excited about seeing our babies again!
I am so curious to know the gender that I am thinking of scheduling a gender screening at a private ultrasound facility. Our anatomy scan will happen at 18 weeks but I'd love to find out sooner! We have another appointment at 15 weeks but I'm not sure if they will do an ultrasound at that appointment.
Pregnancy Highlights:
Today's Date: Wednesday, January 4th, 2012
How Far Along: 12 weeks
Size of babies: Babies are the size of plums.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Down 3 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight (up a pound from last week)
Maternity Clothes: Yes! I got a pair of black pants for work and some maternity leggings this week. My tops are still fitting just fine.
Gender: I'm back to thinking that A is the girl and B is the boy.
Movement: I can't feel that babies move but I can feel my uterus when I press down on my stomach! It's so weird!
Sleep: I'm staying up until 10 and woke up on time for school both days this week. Yesterday I felt great and today I am exhausted! I find myself sleeping on my back every morning and think that I need to get one of those pillows that helps prevent that.
What I miss: Wine! I was parked in front of Winestore yesterday while shopping at Earthfare and contemplated going in to ask them if they had any non-alcoholic wine. haha.
Cravings: French fries and coke icees. Cravings are not super intense, more like wants.
Symptoms: Morning sickness! I woke up this morning and immediately needed Zofran, I still proceeded to get sick after :( Dare I say constipation? That is really gross to share on the internet but for the sake of being honest and sharing, Miralax is my bff :) I've also started getting headaches.
Best Moment this week: Telling my students and work colleagues!
your baby's the size of a plum!
The average fetus at 12 weeks is about 2.1 inches long and .49 ounces. Now that she's got pretty much all her parts, her main job is to keep on growing.
Here's a look at what the twins look like inside my belly!
