Happy Birthday to Me!

I turned the big 2-8 on Saturday and the day came and went. I was thankful to spend the day with the people I love. I decided I wanted to celebrate my day with an early morning run to Whole Foods for breakfast. Jay and I bundled the babies up in the BOB and hit the road! The nail salon I go to is next door to Whole Foods so Jay kept the babies entertained and treated me to a manicure. The rest of the day was spent cleaning and organizing for a chili cookoff we hosted on Sunday. Does anyone else plan parties just for motivation to clean house?! Haha- I'm only half kidding. I also enjoyed a solo shopping trip to target and hobby lobby.

We kept my "party"pretty low key on Saturday. The babies took their nighttime nap while my mom and sister came over with Chinese food. They also brought a delicious Whole Foods cake. It was the perfect simple way to celebrate 28! I got some very generous gifts from Jay's family and a new camera lens from mine. My gift from Jay is a trip of my choice! We LOVE traveling and were supposed to go for our 5th anniversary but with having babies and my mom's cancer we decided to postpone. I'm excited to start planning our little getaway. Any suggestions of where to go for a kid free long weekend?!

On Sunday we hosted the "1st Annual" chili cook off. We has such a fun time celebrating fall with our friends and enjoyed a delicious array of chilis. We tried to vote but got a little distracted with the social part of it! Next year we will make it a little more official :) We made Hot Gold Apple Cider Rum Punch and it was gone in a matter of minutes. I definitely should have made more. This is a great "spirit"to sip while sitting around a fire enjoying the crisp weather. My mom also made White Texas Sheet cake and almost the entire pan was gobbled up! This was a fun and easy to host event and we hope to continue it for years to come!

We made Whole Foods Turkey Chili and my husband's secret recipe chili. The showstopper was Mary Clare's Vegetarian Butternut Squash Chili. It was yummy!

While putting the kids to bed Sunday evening, my mom called and told me that she needed to go to the ER. She had a pain in her arm that started in the morning and got worse throughout the day. When she got home from the chili cookoff she called her cancer nurse and she told her to get to the hospital asap. I finished nursing and headed over to pick her up and take her in. A quick boast to my husband... I am sooo thankful he is so involved in our children's lives and such a good daddy. I was able to leave immediately and he could care for our babies the same way that I do. He packed bags for gigi's house, made bottles, and put the kids to bed. I am so thankful.... meanwhile, my mom and I arrived at the hospital and learned that she had a blood clot in her arm. Luckily it was in a superficial vein and not the kind that "throw" and cause blockage in the heart or brain. With a little medicine, she was good to go! We are all very thankful that the clot has been the only complication from chemo!

And now, the week in pictures (all from iPhone... I'll update with pics from my big camera later!)

anyone else have an obsession with baby legs? I love these for hanging out in the evenings in a onesie and keeping little legs warm!

Found on my desk on Monday morning! Love my silly students!

The following is a montage of my cute kids (sorry if cute kids aren't your thing...) Holden is quite obsessed with chewing on his hands. Note his excitement when he found another hand to chew on!

"yum! A new hand to taste!"

I hate to be narcissistic but I'm pretty proud of the weight I've lost after these twins! The picture on the left was taken on November 17th at 20 weeks postpartum. The picture on the right was taken when I was 17 weeks pregnant.

You're in luck... haha I did upload a few pics from my big camera:
