So now we know...

This morning I had my first visit with Dr. Wing at REACH (reproductive endocrinology associates of Charlotte). It's been about 7 months of trying to get pregnant with no success. Thanks to some recommendations and encouragement by friends we decided to see a specialist. Best thing we could have done! After a half-hour chat with Dr. Wing he guessed that I had PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, a luteal phase defect, and dysfunctional ovulation. A quick ultrasound confirmed his diagnosis and within minutes he was discussing a treatment plan.

Dr. Wing and his nurse could not have been nicer! I know it seems odd that I'm excited about having fertility problems, but I'm just so thankful that they seem easy to fix and that I've found a doctor that really listens and wants to help us have a baby!  I feel like I'm in such good hands and am so excited to start treatment and hopefully meet our baby in the next year :)

I'll go in Thursday to begin the first of several rounds of hormone testing and ultrasounds. I'm going to start taking a medication that improves the quality of my eggs. (If you are interested in learning about the therapy, click here) Around the time of ovulation, the doctor will give me a shot that tells my body to release the egg. From there on I'll take hormone supplements to make sure that our little embryo sticks and we become pregnant. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin this new adventure!!!

BTW- It may seems weird that I'm sharing this on my blog but I'm hoping that anything I share will help any of you who will ever struggle with infertility or have questions in the future.
