It's been a CHILLY winter with NO snow in Charlotte. These are the absolute worst for a southerner. If it's going to be cold, it might needs to snow. Whats the point of 10 degree mornings with no snow. My poor littles have been stuck inside for much of the winter. I've decided to devote this post to 5 of my favorite garments for keeping warm!
1. My absolute favorite is my fur coat. It is one of my favorite things and most treasured possessions. See, if it were up to me, I probably wouldn't own a fur coat. They are crazy expensive and seem like SUCH a luxury item to me. When my Grandma passed away, much to my sisters' dismay, I was willed her two fur coats. My favorite is my mink coat. It was super big and bulky but we took it to a furrier and had it updated and it is such a perfect style for me! My Grandma was a lady that like luxurious things, furs, diamonds, etc. I think she passed a little of that on to me ;). I love wearing this coat and am always reminded of her. We had it cleaned extensively but it stills has a faint (very very faint) trace of cigarette smoke and every time I where it I can smell her (that doesn't sound creepy at all). Her name was embroidered in the lining and we decided rather than replace the lining, we would add my name to it. I hope this is something that can be passed down to the girls in the family and think about how cool it will be to collect every wearer's name in the lining. I also love that when they company in Charlotte remade it, they removed the original label and re-sewed it on the inside front of the coat rather than tossing it. When my Dad gave it to me he made the rule that I couldn't wear it unless the weather was under 32 degrees that I still abide by. We aren't really "fur" people and he didn't want me to seem ostentatious. Lucky for me, this has been a fabulous winter to bundle up in this special coat!

Now onto more normal things...
2. Now I know all southerners LOVE their bean boots. While I cannot say that I have tried them, I am pretty much obsessed with these Red Head knock offs I picked up at Bass Pro Shops almost 10 years ago! They are red head brand and the warmest shoes I've ever owned. I love wearing them in the super cold and snow!
sorry for the picture quality!
3. I received this blanket as a Christmas gift from my Grandpa and Susan several years ago. It is from JC Penny and one of my favorites! It is sooo warm and cozy. Perfect for curling up in front of the fire.
4. I had to include at least one kids item and these have been awesome. Yes, my kids look like little elves/minions with their pointy hoods but these hanna andersson fleece suits are awesome. We got these as a gift last year when the babies were sooo tiny. We used them all the time. So much easier to keep them warm when we went outside to play. They still fit this year and their Dad has been known to slip these on over their pjs when he does morning errands... It looks like they are sold out right now but this seems to be an item they have every winter. They do have a cute flower and dragon on sale now.
5. SmartWool Socks. I have several pairs of these and LOVE the thin ones for skiing but these thick Mountaineering Extra Heavy Crew Socks are my favorite to wear around the house and under uggs or duck boots in the winter. They are a little pricey but totally worth is and hold up sooo well!

I'm with you. If it's going to be cold let's have a few flakes!
